Therapy for College Students & Young Adults

You're supposed to be figuring out your life. That's a lot to figure out.

College and young adulthood can be exciting—and surprisingly disorienting.

For years, life may have had a fairly predictable structure. School led to the next year of school. There were clear milestones and a general idea of what you were supposed to do next.

Then suddenly the decisions get much bigger.

School. Career. Relationships. Friendships. Money. Independence. Family expectations. Where to live. Who to become.

Meanwhile, it can look like everyone around you knows exactly where they're going.

You may be doing well on paper while privately feeling anxious, lonely, overwhelmed, behind, or completely unsure of yourself.

Maybe You're...

Constantly overthinking your decisions.

Anxious about school, your career, or your future.

Comparing yourself to friends who seem further ahead.

Trying to figure out what you want instead of what everyone else expects from you.

Struggling with dating, relationships, or changing friendships.

Feeling lonely even though you're surrounded by people.

Dealing with panic, perfectionism, or self-doubt.

Grieving someone or something important to you.

Questioning the career or path you thought you wanted.

Or trying to figure out who you actually are outside of school, achievement, family, or relationships.

You don't have to be in crisis for those things to be worth talking about.

Life After College Can Be Especially Strange

Graduation is supposed to feel like an accomplishment.

And it is.

But it can also feel like losing the structure you've had for most of your life.

Friends move away. Relationships change. Career expectations meet reality. The identity of being a student disappears, and suddenly there isn't an obvious next milestone telling you whether you're doing life "right."

You may find yourself asking:

What am I actually doing with my life?

Did I choose the right career?

Why does everyone else seem ahead of me?

Is this what adulthood is supposed to feel like?

Who am I without the next obvious goal?

This period can bring anxiety, grief, loneliness, uncertainty, and some of the biggest identity questions you've encountered so far.

It can also be an incredible opportunity to begin deciding what your life will look like.

Anxiety & Overthinking

Anxiety is especially common during seasons filled with uncertainty.

You may replay conversations, second-guess decisions, worry about disappointing people, struggle to relax, or feel pressure to make the "right" choices about your future.

Sometimes the desire to make the perfect decision leaves you unable to make any decision at all.

Therapy can help you understand what's underneath the anxiety, learn ways to regulate it, and build greater trust in your ability to handle uncertainty.

Relationships Identity & Finding Your Direction

Young adulthood is often the first time you get to seriously ask:

Who am I when I'm the one deciding?

You may be sorting through family expectations, changing friendships, romantic relationships, values, career goals, beliefs, independence, and the kind of person you want to become.

Therapy doesn't give you a blueprint for adulthood.

It can give you a place to explore those questions without someone else deciding the answers for you.

How I Work With Young Adults

My style is warm, collaborative, and conversational.

We'll make space for what's happening right now while also looking at the experiences, relationships, beliefs, and patterns that helped get you here.

Depending on your needs, I may incorporate mindfulness, CBT, EFT, EMDR techniques, nervous-system regulation, and experiential approaches.

I don't expect you to arrive knowing exactly what your "therapy goals" are.

Sometimes I know something feels off and I want to understand it is a perfectly good place to start.

Therapy That Fits Into Your Life

I offer online therapy for college students and young adults located throughout Colorado, making it possible to meet from your home, apartment, or another private space that works for you.

For clients who are local to Longmont, equine-assisted psychotherapy is also available at my private farm.

Whether you're anxious about the future, grieving a loss, navigating a transition, or simply trying to understand yourself better, therapy can be a place to sort through where you are and begin deciding where you want to go next.
